Dr. Susan B. Roberts is Director of the Obesity and Energetics Laboratory at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging and Professor of Nutrition in the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, and Professor of Psychiatry and Staff Member in Pediatrics in the Tufts Medical School. She is internationally renowned for her work on weight regulation and obesity, including research on dietary composition and weight regulation and food cravings. She has also developed a new behavioral intervention that has recently been shown to be highly effective for sustainable weight loss that influences the reward system of the brain, resulting in increasing liking for healthy foods and reduced liking for unhealthy foods. She was a member of the 2003 Institute of Medicine panel determining Dietary Reference Intakes and a member of the 2017 Dietary Guidelines Process Group. She has also published more than 250 research papers on topics relating to weight regulation and has published 2 popular books based on her research (Feeding your Child for Lifelong Health, Bantam 1999, and The “I” Diet, Workman Publishing 2010). Dr. Roberts received a BS in Human Nutrition from the University of London in England, and a Ph.D. in Nutritional Physiology from the University of Cambridge in England.
